How to Select the Best LED Display in 2023

Because there are so many different displays available, it can take time to decide which is the best for your needs. This is when PSCo comes into play! We can provide unrivaled experienced support in developing the ideal LED display for you. But, before we get there, you may have some questions.

This helpful guide will teach you all you need to know before starting your LED display journey.

What Exactly Is An LED Display?

An LED screen appears to be a large TV at first glance. The inner workings, however, are substantially different. An LED display comprises thousands or millions of light dots known as pixels, with a small group of LEDs inside each pixel. Each LED emits three colors: red, green, and blue, which may be combined to produce billions of colors.

LED pixels are mounted on connected square or rectangular panels to form a complete image. One continuous, unbroken image is a high-quality LED display that has been correctly mounted.

LED Display Types

Fundamentally, three forms of LED technology are employed in LED displays: SMD screen, MiniLED, and MicroLED. To assist you in deciding which solution is ideal for your organization, we’ve detailed the fundamental characteristics that define them and their respective strengths.

SMD LED

The most prevalent LED technology is SMD (Surface Mounted Device), in which the LED pixel (composed of red, green, and blue diodes) is mounted directly onto the circuit board’s surface. It is a tried and verified technology that provides the best pricing performance with versatile design possibilities for every situation. The vast majority of LED displays on the market today employ basic SMD technology.

MiniLED

MiniLED (also known as Integrated Mounted Device or ‘IMD’ for short) is an advancement of prior LED technology in which numerous SMDs are bundled into one integrated device. This matrix pixel arrangement improves strength and compresses more pixels into a smaller space, allowing the display to achieve better resolutions. With its outstanding picture quality and ability to survive the rigors of daily use, it has become a popular choice for high-end rental applications.

MicroLED

MicroLED displays are made up of non-organic microscopic LEDs sealed directly onto the presentation with a coated surface. This protects the pixel from physical impact and eliminates the need for the package. Because each pixel has its light source, it can turn on and off as needed, producing remarkable contrast while being more energy efficient. To learn more about this LED technology, see our MicroLED handbook.

What size LED screen do I require?

When buying an LED display, there are other factors besides size. Consider the viewing distance and type of content instead. The resolution/pitch necessary depends on the distance between the display and your audience and the level of detail required in your material. The narrower the pixel pitch, the closer the viewing distance.

A decent rule of thumb is that for every 1m you stand away from the display. You should have a minimum of 1mm pixel pitch, and so on.

Currently, the standard pixel pitch for an indoor display ranges from 1.2mm to 2.5mm, with specific high-end applications requiring less than 1mm. The viewing distances of outdoor LED displays vary widely, but 4mm to 6mm is the most preferred choice.

What Are LED Displays Used For?

LED displays can be used in various contexts and sectors, from retail stores to corporate meeting rooms and live events to outdoor advertising. The primary applications for LED include presentations, signage, and data visualization.

PSCo covers the entire LED spectrum with world-class brands such as Samsung, Sharp-NEC, LG, and Absen. Even better, we provide end-to-end service to ensure the most excellent possible purchasing experience.

Corporate

According to Forbes, businesses only 7 seconds to make a first impression, and LED displays can help build enduring images. LED displays were used initially in welcome areas to offer a “wow” effect and express brand values to guests and staff as they entered the building. Still, they are ubiquitous in conference rooms and event venues for dramatic presentations and video calls.

Furthermore, most LED providers now provide practical “All-in-One” solutions in fixed sizes ranging from 110″ to 220″. These are simple to install and inexpensive enough to justify replacing old projections and LCDs.

Retail

Only luxury brands could afford an LED display at one time. However, as competition increased and costs decreased, digital signage became a regular sight in any retail store or shopping center. Brick-and-mortar stores, particularly in the aftermath of COVID-19, have to raise their game to compete with online retailers.

Because visual considerations influence 90% of purchasing choices, LED displays provide engaging shopping experiences that customers will remember. The beauty of LED is that it can blend in with any surroundings. Retailers can even construct a collection that is unique to their store, choosing the form and size and customizing the show to a range of styles, such as the floor, ceiling, and curving walls.

Higher Education

LED is the ideal alternative for lecture theatres, presentation spaces, and digital signage for institutions competing to recruit top students due to falling costs, improved warranty terms, and the availability of simple fixed-size solutions.

As with the business sector, all-in-one LED bundles are an excellent choice for educational institutions wishing to give an engaging learning experience using the latest LED technology.

Live Events

Absen Polaris is the market leader in LED products for the rental market, with indoor and outdoor solutions that include excellent brightness and exceptional contrast at any viewing angle. LED displays not only bring live shows to life and provide remarkable experiences. They are tough, well-made, and long-lasting.

Broadcast / Virtual Production

In a content-driven era, broadcast and production firms are bringing their tales to life with dynamic LED backdrops that work well on television and in the limelight. Because of the realistic visual quality, versatility, and dependability of LED technology, several film companies have chosen virtual productions over on-location shooting, reducing their carbon footprint and travel expenses.

Outdoor

The number of digital out-of-house (DOOH) screens in the UK has more than doubled in only two years, owing to increased demand for flexible, real-time content management and distribution across digital signage, outdoor advertising, and sports displays.
